Exit

Characteristics: The business has finally achieved the goals you had set out for it. You are now looking to cash in on your investment and the value you have built into the business through all the years. The business is now in good hands and operates well without the need for your constant guidance and intervention. As an owner-manager, you may decide it is time to retire or to look at another business venture.

How do you plan your exit? How will you exit? What are your tax implications? We can help you with, your other advisers, to decide on how you as a business owner realise the value of the enterprise you have built up. You have a number of options:

  • A private trade sale to the management team, another business or investor
  • An IPO (initial public offering) whereby shares are offered for sale to the public, followed usually by a stock exchange listing either on Main Board, AIM or PLUS
  • An MBO (management buyout)

Each has pros and cons and differing complexities. We will guide through the options available and help you to prepare an exit strategy that suits your personal aspirations and future plans. As part of this process, we will support you on the transaction management and a robust valuation of your intellectual property. Throughout we will work closely with your financial partners and other advisers.
